What surprised me; something new I learnt: in the module on spiritual sicknesses; recognizing symptoms that happen when there is sihr and protecting ourselves from it.

My favorite part: I can list 2

- At the very beginning, in the fundamentals. Being reminded that our marriage is an act of worship, not just something that happened and we live day by day trying to get by. I knew it at the back of my head, but I didn’t really make this a recurrent reminder in my mind to inform my mindset and attitude. It has greatly improved my mood and my wellbeing in general, as well as my closeness and hope in Allah.

- The conflict resolution exercise “in his shoes”.

It changes our perspective and increases compassion and kindness in our dealing with our spouse.

Many times we focus on our rights. Being reminded of our obligations and refocusing on Allah’s satisfaction will make a world of difference for women in a marriage.

This course was a beautiful and timely journey ma sha Allah! Jazakillah khayr!

I think it will be really helpful for sisters who are not yet married to build those tools and skills and resources. 

I used to think I was great at communication, but I realized that communicating with yourself is a completely different skill. The class helped me see how important that inner dialogue is, especially when it comes to managing expectations and navigating the shift from the courting phase to the marriage phase, which are two very different worlds.

I really benefited from  the whole aspect of conflict resolution and then having to put yourself in the shoes of the other and being the third person was really beneficial. 

My favorite part was about the spiritual sickness and its impact in marriages.

I’ve always been a very rational person. I like to understand the reasons behind everything. The topic of the unseen was something I used to struggle to fully grasp, even though I knew what the Qur’an and the Prophet ﷺ taught about it. But this class helped me connect the dots. It gave me the understanding, awareness, and practical tools to protect myself and my marriage from things that are part of the unseen, even those I may not fully comprehend.”

This course is one of the best investments I have made so far in life, I can feel it…

I was surprised by the following:

i. How much conflict comes from not seeing the other person point of view;

ii. I loved how freely/honestly sisters shared and it helped me too to see that no marriage is perfect.

What resonated with me A LOT  was to constantly ask, “why am I doing this”…

it is easy to forget everyday that marriage is also an act of ibadat. like I told you, I came to it with a very traditional understanding based on my Nigerien/Hausa/zarma upbringing + on the other end, a very western-centric understanding which didn’t make sense to me.

I am finding a better compass in my articulation of what it ought to be and can be.
